Stats
Bio
Recruited from Hobart in the Tasmanian Football League, Max Byers arrived at Windy Hill as a versatile utility capable of filling various roles across the ground. His tenure at Essendon coincided with a golden era under legendary coach John Coleman, making senior selection notoriously difficult to earn amidst a star-studded lineup. Consequently, Byers spent the majority of his short VFL career on the pine, with five of his seven senior appearances coming as a reserve. He came agonizingly close to premiership glory, named as an emergency for the Bombers' triumphant 1962 Grand Final side but missing the final cut. Following his stint in the league, he moved to country Victoria, where he served as captain-coach for Numurkah in the Murray Football League.
