Bio
Recruited from Dandenong, Max Cole arrived at Fitzroy in 1965 and immediately found a home deep in the Lions' defence. A dedicated back pocket specialist, Cole was tasked with locking down dangerous small forwards and resting rovers, playing a disciplined, strictly defensive role that saw him finish his VFL career without kicking a goal. He became a reliable fixture in the senior side during a lean era for the club, often operating under immense pressure as the ball frequently flooded into the defensive 50. While his on-field tenure concluded after five seasons, his commitment to the club endured for decades; Cole became a revered figure off the field, serving as a long-time committee member and Honorary Life Member of the Fitzroy-Brisbane Lions Past Players & Officials Association.
