Max Jose

Recruited from Glenhuntly, Max Jose was a tall utility who joined Hawthorn during a difficult era for the club in the early 1950s. Standing 187cm with a solid frame, he provided the Hawks with a much-needed physical presence capable of playing as a follower or in a key defensive post. Despite his size, Jose struggled to cement a permanent position in the senior lineup, often operating as a fringe player who drifted in and out of the side over his five seasons at Glenferrie Oval. He served the club during its lean rebuilding years under Jack Hale but departed the scene at the conclusion of the 1957 season, missing out on on-field participation in the club's historic first finals campaign that year.
