Teams

Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers in the 2017 Rookie Draft, Max Lynch spent the early years of his career at Collingwood developing in the shadow of All-Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy. Despite showing promise at VFL level with his competitive tap work and ability to follow up at ground level, opportunities in the senior side were scarce, restricting him to just three games across five seasons at the Holden Centre. In search of a clear path to first-team football, Lynch requested a trade to Hawthorn at the end of 2021, where he was viewed as a potential long-term option to succeed Ben McEvoy. However, his stint at Waverley Park was marred by persistent concussion issues which frequently interrupted his run in the side. Ultimately, the cumulative effect of these head knocks forced Lynch to retire midway through the 2023 season on medical advice at just 24 years of age.
