Bio
Recruited from Traralgon in the Latrobe Valley, Max McMahon was a talented centre half-back who committed to Hawthorn in 1961 despite strong initial interest from Carlton. He broke into the senior lineup for his debut against North Melbourne during the club's historic maiden premiership season, but he could not hold his spot in the powerful combination that went on to win the flag, managing just that solitary appearance for the year. After adding four games in 1962, McMahon struggled to cement a permanent role in the Hawks' defence and subsequently moved to Tasmania, where he forged a brilliant career as a state representative and club legend. His time across the Bass Strait was highly decorated, highlighted by a premiership and Best and Fairest with Glenorchy, a Lefroy Medal as the state's best player, and eventual selection in Glenorchy's Team of the Century.
