Bio
Recruited from East Ballarat, Max Orr was a talented dual sportsman who balanced his football with duties as a wicketkeeper for the MCC. His arrival at Melbourne was delayed by a prolonged clearance wrangle, with his local club initially refusing to release him despite interest from both the Demons and Fitzroy. Finally making his debut in 1952 under incoming coach Norm Smith, Orr operated as a half-forward and winger, managing seven senior appearances across two seasons before returning to the country leagues in 1954. His career serves as a tragic footnote in the club's history, as he was killed in a car accident on the Western Highway in 1955 at the age of 24, just days before he was scheduled to play a semi-final for Ballarat.
