Bio
Arriving at Footscray from Welshpool as a raw 17-year-old ruckman, Max Parker faced the difficult task of breaking into a side that already boasted Gary Dempsey and Barry Round in the big man department. Consequently deployed as a key forward to utilise his 194cm frame, he showed glimpses of genuine talent in his debut 1971 season, booting three goals against North Melbourne and another three against South Melbourne in just five senior appearances. Unable to crack the senior side the following year, he eventually moved to the SANFL where he carved out a magnificent career with Woodville. Parker reinvented himself as a commanding key defender and club captain in South Australia, playing over 280 games and earning state selection, proving himself a high-calibre player whose VFL statistics belied his true longevity and skill.
