Bio
A South Melbourne local whose promising career was delayed by distinguished service as a Commando in New Guinea during World War II, Max Piggott finally made his VFL debut as a mature-age recruit in 1946. He wasted no time establishing himself as a potent full-forward, booting four goals on debut against St Kilda and managing a haul of seven against Carlton the following year to average nearly three goals a game. However, a troublesome elbow injury and a desire to pursue horticultural business interests forced him into a premature retirement after just eight senior appearances. Piggott later relocated to Western Australia, where he reinvented himself as a prolific agricultural journalist, writing for the Farm Weekly well into his 90s.
