Bio
Recruited from Mornington via a stint with St Patricks in Albury, Max Pitchford was a tall follower and forward who arrived at Arden Street in 1927. After an earlier trial with Fitzroy failed to eventuate, he found his place with North Melbourne during the club's challenging formative years in the VFL. Standing 188cm, he was a versatile big man capable of rotating through the ruck or holding down a key forward post, providing much-needed structure to a side that often struggled against more established opposition. He remained a consistent figure for four seasons, notching up a half-century of games before departing the league in 1931 to take up a captain-coaching role with Ballarat Imperials.
