Bio
Recruited from Cohuna Union in the Murray Valley region, Max Robertson was a durable defender who broke into the South Melbourne senior side as a 17-year-old. After a hiatus during the 1973 season, he returned to cement a spot in the Swans' backline, becoming a reliable weekly selection throughout the mid-1970s. Standing 185cm, he possessed the size to play key defensive posts or on a half-back flank, where he was known for a disciplined, safety-first approach that yielded just one career goal. Despite becoming a staple of the South Melbourne defence during a difficult era for the club, Robertson's time at the elite level was fleeting, with his VFL career concluding at the surprisingly young age of 22.
