Bio
A product of the Gold Coast Suns Academy and local junior club Palm Beach Currumbin, Max Spencer broke into the AFL system as a Category B rookie with a reputation for discipline and defensive accountability. He was elevated to the senior list late in the 2017 season to cover a defensive injury crisis, making his debut against Richmond where he was immediately tasked with handling senior opposition forwards. A tall key defender who relied on positioning and intercept marking rather than flashy disposal, Spencer played a handful of games over two seasons, often filling gaps when key pillars like Steven May were unavailable. While he struggled to secure a permanent spot in the Suns' best 22 and was delisted at the end of 2018, he proved his resilience by forging a significant post-AFL career as a premier defender in the VFL with Southport and Werribee.
