Bio
Recruited from Smeaton in the Ballarat region after serving in the RAAF during the Second World War, Max Spittle established himself as a pacy wingman for the Demons in the late 1940s. He wasted little time adapting to VFL level, becoming a regular fixture in the side thanks to his speed and delivery into the forward line. His crowning achievement came in 1948, where he played a pivotal role in Melbourne's Premiership triumph over Essendon, featuring in both the famous drawn Grand Final and the subsequent Replay victory. Remarkably, he booted just one goal in his entire 50-game career—a solitary major against Richmond in his premiership year—before retiring from league football in 1950 to return to the country and play for Redan.
