Stats
Bio
Recruited from Ocean Grove on the Bellarine Peninsula, Max Sutcliffe was a tall utility who filled key posts for Geelong during the mid-1950s. Standing 185cm, he possessed a strong pair of hands and was utilised at both ends of the ground, managing 13 goals during his time in the hoops while also serving as a defensive option when required. His ability to adapt was tested against high-quality opposition, notably when he was switched to full back to combat Collingwood star Murray Weideman during a match in 1956. Despite establishing himself as a regular fixture in the senior side over two years, Sutcliffe’s VFL career was brief; he departed Kardinia Park early in the 1957 season at just 20 years of age having played 24 games.
