Bio
Recruited from North Hobart, Max Walker arrived at Melbourne as a talented dual-sportsman who balanced VFL duties with a burgeoning cricket career. Standing tall as a ruckman who could also drift into defence, Walker was deceptive in his movement, often using his lanky frame to outposition opponents in marking contests. While he became a reliable fixture in the Demons' lineup during the late 1960s and early 1970s, the increasing demands of elite sport eventually forced a decision regarding his future. Despite his clear aptitude for Australian Rules, Walker retired from the VFL following the 1972 season to pursue Test cricket full-time, leaving behind a brief but impressive football legacy before becoming an Australian sporting icon in the summer code.
