Stats
Bio
A schoolboy prodigy from Wesley College who once booted 22 goals in a single match, Mel Morris arrived at Punt Road in 1921 following service in the First World War where he was wounded in action. He made an immediate impact as a pacey centreman and half-forward, tasting premiership success in his debut season and claiming the club's Best and Fairest award the very next year. Renowned for his speed and clinical finishing, Morris topped the Tigers' goalkicking in 1924 and 1925, proving himself a constant threat whether roaming the midfield or resting forward. He rounded out his VFL tenure as captain-coach in 1926 before eventually transitioning into a pioneering role as one of the game's first radio commentators.
