Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with pick 17 in the 2013 National Draft, Michael Apeness was a towering key forward and ruckman viewed as a long-term structural pillar for Fremantle. Possessing a massive frame and strong contested marking ability, he arrived at the club with high expectations but saw his time in the system decimated by a relentless run of injuries. Apeness endured two knee reconstructions and a broken collarbone, setbacks that restricted him to fleeting opportunities despite the club securing him on a contract extension in 2016 to ward off interest from the Western Bulldogs. Although he showed glimpses of his power during a brief run of form that same year, his body could not withstand the rigours of elite football, leading to his retirement and delisting at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
