Recruited from St Kevin’s Old Boys, Michael "Cappy" Blood was a competitive ruckman who balanced the demands of VFL football with his studies to become a dentist. Joining Hawthorn in 1967, he utilised his 193cm frame to provide a strong contest at stoppages and offer structural depth to the Hawks' big man division during the club's build-up to its golden era. While his career tally of 37 games was limited by the emergence of legendary ruck peers and his professional medical commitments, he served as a reliable contributor for the brown and gold throughout the late 1960s. He ultimately stepped away from top-level football to focus full-time on his dental practice, hanging up the boots just prior to the club's 1971 premiership breakthrough.
