Bio
Recruited from East Perth in the WAFL, Michael Christian arrived at Victoria Park in 1987 and quickly established himself as a pillar of the Collingwood defence. A strong and reliable fullback, he was renowned for his discipline and capacity to neutralize opposition key forwards during a physically demanding era of football. Christian became a central figure in the Magpies' famous 1990 premiership side, anchoring the backline as the club broke its 32-year flag drought.
He remained a regular fixture in the senior side until injuries began to take their toll, eventually retiring at the end of the 1995 season. While his playing days were defined by his role as a dependable key defender, Christian maintained a significant presence in the game long after hanging up the boots, transitioning into a prominent media commentary career before accepting the high-pressure role of the AFL's Match Review Officer in 2017.
