Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle’s 1998 premiership side, Michael Collica made an immediate impact at Hawthorn, playing every game in his debut season as a courageous, third-tall defender. However, a coaching change at Glenferrie Oval saw him fall out of favour, prompting a trade home to West Coast at the end of 2000 to reunite with his former mentor Ken Judge. The move proved revitalising, as Collica became a cornerstone of the Eagles' backline, playing 45 consecutive games and finishing runner-up to Ben Cousins in the 2001 Club Champion award. A durable and disciplined operator capable of playing tall or small, his AFL career was ultimately cut short by persistent soft-tissue injuries, which limited him to just five appearances in his final two seasons before his delisting.
