A product of the South Fremantle football factory, Michael Dunstan was a sturdy half-forward who made an immediate impression after being selected by Fitzroy with pick 40 in the 1992 National Draft. He wasted no time adapting to the top level, booting goals with his first two kicks in the AFL on debut against Carlton in 1993. After two promising seasons at the Lions where he missed only a handful of games, the West Australian requested a trade home and was dealt to the West Coast Eagles in exchange for a draft pick that eventually landed Ben Holland. However, Dunstan’s time in Perth was severely hampered by persistent injuries; he managed just five senior appearances in his first season with the Eagles and failed to play a single game in the following two years before being delisted.
