Stats
Bio
Recruited from Golden Square in the Bendigo Football League, Michael Gallagher was a towering ruckman and forward who showed immediate promise upon arriving at Princes Park. He made a strong impression during his debut season in 1987, booting 12 goals in nine games for the eventual premiers, though he ultimately missed out on a spot in the Grand Final side that defeated Hawthorn. Standing 196cm, Gallagher possessed the size to compete in the ruck but often found himself stuck behind legendary big man Justin Madden and key forward Stephen Kernahan in the Blues' pecking order. Seeking greater opportunity, he was selected by North Melbourne with pick six in the 1990 Pre-Season Draft, where he enjoyed his most consistent football. Gallagher played his best campaign in 1991, making 21 appearances as a mobile tall who could drift forward and hit the scoreboard, before concluding his 54-game career at the end of the 1992 season.
