Bio
A local product recruited from the Geelong West Roosters in the VFA, Michael Gurrie was a mid-sized utility who earned his shot at the top level with the Cats in the aftermath of their historic 1989 Grand Final campaign. He broke into the senior side early in the 1990 season, notably gathering 17 disposals in a Round 3 victory over Fitzroy at Kardinia Park. Capable of playing through the midfield or across the flanks, Gurrie made seven appearances that year, drifting forward to boot two goals but struggling to cement a permanent spot in a lineup still boasting established stars like Gary Ablett and Paul Couch. He remained on the playing list for the 1991 season but could not force his way back into the senior twenty-two, eventually departing the club after a brief two-year stint.
