Bio
Recruited from Rutherglen in the Ovens and Murray League, Michael Hawking was a tall forward prospect who initially caught the eye of scouts after booting nine goals on his senior country debut as a 16-year-old. Standing 191cm, he presented as a key target in attack and managed to hit the scoreboard with five goals during his brief three-game cameo for North Melbourne in 1972. Despite his promising physical attributes and scoring rate, he did not remain at Arden Street, instead moving to Tasmania to play for Penguin in the NWFU as a fly-in, fly-out recruit. Hawking eventually returned to Victoria to forge a significant career in the VFA, playing 87 games for Caulfield in the late 1970s.
