Bio
A highly rated junior from Hobart who won the Hunter Harrison Medal, Michael Martin was selected by Footscray with pick 14 in the 1994 National Draft. He developed into a reliable midfielder and half-forward during the Bulldogs' late-90s resurgence, cementing his spot in the side to play all 24 games in 1998, a run that included appearances in the club's back-to-back Preliminary Final campaigns. Martin was traded to the Brisbane Lions prior to the 2000 season in a deal involving Trent Bartlett, initially finding a place in the seniors with 10 appearances in his debut year in Queensland. However, his career was cut short by a debilitating battle with osteitis pubis, forcing him to retire at just 25 and miss out on the Lions' historic premiership dynasty that began the following year.
