Bio
Recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with pick 43 in the 2004 National Draft, Michael Newton was a high-flying key forward best remembered for his spectacular grab against the Kangaroos in 2007 that secured the Mark of the Year. Known affectionately as "Juice," he showed early promise as a goal-kicking option but struggled to find consistency at the elite level, often dominating in the VFL for Sandringham without being able to cement a permanent spot in the Melbourne senior side. After being delisted at the end of 2009, he was handed a lifeline by the club via the rookie draft, adding depth to the forward line for another two seasons before his final departure in 2011, ultimately finishing his career as a fringe player whose highlight-reel aerial skills were offset by an inability to command a regular place in the 22.
