Bio
Recruited from De La Salle in the VAFA, Michael Nugent was a towering ruckman and defender who arrived at Richmond with a decorated amateur record that included dual premierships and All-Australian Amateur selection. Standing at 196cm, he made his debut during the Tigers' dominant 1980 campaign, serving as depth for the eventual premiership side. Nugent truly found his footing in 1981, becoming a regular contributor in the ruck and back pocket where his size and versatility proved valuable against the league's taller opponents. However, just as he appeared set to cement a long-term spot in the senior lineup, severe knee injuries struck him down, forcing the promising big man into premature retirement after just two seasons at the elite level.
