Bio
A foundation player for South Melbourne in the newly formed VFL, Michael O'Gorman featured in the club's inaugural campaign in 1897. Operating primarily as a forward who could rotate through the followers, he maintained a respectable goal-kicking record during his two seasons at Lake Oval before crossing to St Kilda in 1899. He became a regular fixture in the Saints' lineup during a difficult period for the club, but his career was cut short by tragedy just one game into the 1900 season. After appearing in the opening round against Melbourne, O'Gorman fell ill and passed away weeks later at the age of 25, marking a sombre chapter in the league's early history as one of the few players to die while on an active senior list.
