Bio
Originally hailing from the prolific football nursery of Assumption College, Michael O'Sullivan graduated to the senior ranks via Melbourne's 1981 Under-19s premiership team. A classy left-footed wingman and half-back, he made an immediate impact by playing every game in his debut 1982 season, racking up high possession numbers that hinted at a long career. However, his time at the top level became a story of "what might have been" as severe injuries—including a broken shoulder staple and a fractured jaw—derailed his momentum and limited his output over the next four years. He crossed to Essendon seeking a change of fortune but continued to battle fitness issues, managing only a solitary senior appearance for the Bombers in 1988. Despite his struggles to stay on the park, his underlying quality remained evident, highlighted by his victory in the Essendon Reserves Best and Fairest during his final season on a VFL list.
