Bio
Recruited from Haileybury College, Michael Porter established himself as a versatile and reliable flanker for Hawthorn during the club's emergence as a powerhouse under John Kennedy Snr. Standing 180cm, Porter was a solid utility who could operate effectively on both the half-back and half-forward lines, offering structural balance to a side teeming with superstars like Peter Hudson and Leigh Matthews. His crowning achievement came in 1971, where he started on the half-forward flank in the Hawks' gritty Grand Final victory over St Kilda, cementing his status as a premiership player. Porter retired from VFL football relatively early at age 27 to become captain-coach of North Albury in the Ovens & Murray Football League, leaving Hawthorn as a respected member of one of the club's most celebrated premiership teams.
