Bio
Recruited from the Western Jets with pick 61 in the 2003 National Draft, Michael Rischitelli carved out a reputation as a tough, contested ball-winner over a sixteen-year career. Initially playing a supporting role in the Brisbane Lions' midfield, he became the centre of a high-profile trade controversy in 2009 when the club attempted to trade him to Carlton as part of a deal for Brendan Fevola. Rischitelli remained at the Gabba and responded with a standout 2010 season, winning the Merrett-Murray Medal before immediately accepting a contract to join the newly formed Gold Coast Suns as a foundation player.
His time at the Suns was defined by selfless leadership and a physical style of play that often saw him acting as a protector for the club's younger midfielders. While an ACL injury and soft-tissue setbacks limited his output in the latter half of his tenure, Rischitelli successfully transitioned into a defensive forward role to extend his career. He retired in 2019 as a highly respected figure in Queensland football, valued more for his cultural impact and mentoring of the Suns' developing list than for pure statistical accumulation in his final seasons.
