Bio
A mature-age recruit who earned his opportunity through persistent VFL form, Michael Rix was brought into the AFL system to shore up St Kilda's depleted ruck stocks. Originally rookie-listed by Hawthorn in 2004 without cracking a senior game, the 198cm big man impressed at Coburg before the Saints selected him with pick 49 in the 2005 National Draft. He made a memorable start to his senior career at age 25, booting a goal with his first kick in a wet debut against Sydney. While primarily deployed as a tap ruckman to support veterans like Matthew Clarke and Michael Gardiner, Rix was occasionally thrown behind the ball to plug gaps in defence. He played 29 games over three seasons at Moorabbin before being delisted at the end of 2008, eventually continuing his football journey with Subiaco in the WAFL.
