Bio
Recruited from local club Grovedale, Michael Schulze developed into a reliable key defender for Geelong during the high-scoring Malcolm Blight era. Standing 193cm, he established himself as a structural pillar at centre half-back, tasked with quelling the competition's dangerous tall forwards while the Cats' attacking stars dominated the other end. His career reached its zenith in 1989, where he played 26 games and manned the key defensive post in the legendary Grand Final loss to Hawthorn. Despite being a fixture of the side during that breakout season, injuries and selection issues restricted his output in subsequent years, and he eventually departed the club in the early 1990s after struggling to recapture his best form.
