Stats
Bio
A local product recruited from Seddon in the Footscray District Football League, Michael Svilar was a lean utility who broke into the senior side as a teenager under Mick Malthouse. Standing 185cm, he possessed the height to play as a third tall but operated primarily as a depth player capable of filling holes in defence or on the wing. After making his debut in 1988, he found himself out of the senior lineup for the entirety of the tumultuous 1989 season where the club narrowly avoided a merger, restricted to the reserves while the "Fightback" campaign rallied the supporter base. Svilar earned a brief recall for two games in 1990 under new coach Terry Wheeler but was unable to cement a permanent spot in the Bulldogs' best 22, eventually departing the Western Oval with seven career games to his name.
