Honours

Michael Wilson was a foundational pillar of Port Adelaide's entry into the AFL, transitioning from the SANFL Magpies to become a standout in the Power's inaugural 1997 squad. He made an immediate impression, winning the Rising Star award in his debut season and establishing a reputation for his fearless attack on the contest. While he possessed the skills to operate as a midfielder, Wilson made his mark primarily as a courageous small defender who never shirked a contest, often putting his body on the line to intercept or spoil against larger opponents.

His career narrative was heavily influenced by a battle with his own body, as he overcame consecutive shoulder reconstructions and persistent knee issues that threatened to derail his tenure. Despite these significant physical setbacks, he remained a key component of the Power's defensive setup and played a crucial role in the club's breakthrough 2004 premiership victory. A spiritual leader at Alberton known for his supreme resilience, Wilson eventually retired in 2008 after a ruptured Achilles tendon brought an end to his time as a revered one-club player.
