Bio
Recruited from Oakleigh Districts, Michael Wright arrived at the Lake Oval shortly before his younger brother, future Swans champion Steve Wright, made his own mark on the club. A versatile key-position player standing 187cm, Wright was utilised as a swingman for South Melbourne, capable of holding down full-back or presenting as a target at centre half-forward. After three seasons in the VFL, his tenure in the red and white ended when he was involved in a three-way trade that sent him to the SANFL with Central District. While his VFL career was brief, he flourished in South Australia, reinventing himself as a dominant forward who booted 165 goals in just three seasons at Elizabeth.
