Bio
Recruited from the Tasmanian club Clarence, Michael Young was a skilled wingman who carved out his place in VFL history during a golden era for the Carlton Football Club. He broke into the senior side in 1977 and eventually etched his name into Blues folklore as a member of the famous 1979 premiership team, where his run and carry were vital on the wing against Collingwood. Despite this early success, the incredible depth of the Carlton list saw him squeezed out of the side, and he was traded to Melbourne in 1981 as part of the deal that sent Greg Wells to Princes Park. Young managed another 15 senior games with the Demons over two seasons but couldn't quite recapture his premiership form, eventually finishing his career with a season on Essendon's list in 1984 where he did not add to his senior tally.
