Stats
Bio
Recruited from local club Thornbury YCW, Mick Bone was a diminutive but fearless rover who quickly established himself as a cult hero among the Collingwood faithful. Standing just 168cm, he compensated for his lack of height with a "cheeky" on-field demeanour and a desperate attack on the ball, earning the club's best first-year player award in 1962. A lifelong Magpie supporter, Bone played a key role during the mid-60s and featured in the heartbreaking 1964 Grand Final loss to Melbourne. Despite his popularity and promise, his VFL career concluded prematurely at just 24 years of age; following a failed transfer attempt to Fitzroy, he moved to the country to become captain-coach of Wodonga. He subsequently forged a significant legacy in the Ovens & Murray Football League, leading the Bulldogs to two premierships and eventually earning induction into the league's Hall of Fame.
