Bio
Hailing from Jerilderie in the New South Wales Riverina, Mick Dowdle arrived at North Melbourne with a huge reputation as a teenage prodigy, having become the youngest-ever winner of the Coreen & District League’s best and fairest award at just 16. A creative and dangerous rover with a sharp eye for the goals, he debuted for the Kangaroos as a 17-year-old in 1964 and quickly established himself as a consistent senior contributor, booting nearly a goal a game throughout his tenure. Despite his natural talent and ability to win contested ball in the midfield, Dowdle's VFL career concluded prematurely at just 24 years of age. His early departure left him agonizingly stranded on 98 games—two shy of the 100-game milestone—and meant he missed out on the club's golden premiership era that followed in the 1970s.
