Bio
Recruited from Seddon in the local district league, Mick Egan developed into a cornerstone of the Footscray defence after making his senior debut in 1978. A dour and disciplined backman, Egan was typically tasked with manning the opposition's most dangerous key forwards, utilising his spoiling ability and close-checking style to lock down full-back or centre half-back. While he was rarely a prolific ball-winner, his reliability made him a preferred selection for coaches throughout a decade at the Western Oval.
Egan's career spanned the transition from the challenging late 1970s into the club's competitive resurgence under Mick Malthouse in the mid-1980s. He remained a key defensive pillar during the Bulldogs' run to the 1985 Preliminary Final, providing stability behind the team's attacking flair. A loyal one-club player, Egan retired at the conclusion of the 1987 season, departing as a life member having served the club across 128 senior games.
