Bio
A towering figure at 191cm, Mick Howell arrived at Arden Street in 1967 to bolster North Melbourne's big-man stocks during a lean period for the club. Operating primarily as a ruckman who could push forward, he offered a competitive physical presence in a side that claimed three wooden spoons during his four-year tenure. Howell proved to be a durable contributor, missing very few matches between his debut and his final season, often shouldering heavy work in the ruck contests against seasoned opponents. His VFL career concluded at the relatively young age of 24 after the 1970 season, meaning he just missed the club's golden era under Ron Barassi. Tragically, Howell passed away on Christmas Day 1985 aged just 39, remembered by the Shinboner community as a dedicated servant who battled hard during one of the club's toughest eras.
