Bio
A foundation VFL player whose career was defined by versatility and premiership heartbreak, Mick Peppard made his debut in the league's inaugural 1897 season with Fitzroy. After managing five games for the Maroons, he departed the top level for two years before resurfacing at Essendon in 1900. He quickly established himself in the red and black as a utility capable of rotating between half-back and the ruck, becoming a key fixture in a strong lineup. Peppard's most significant campaign came in 1901 where he played 17 matches—almost the entire season—but was cruelly omitted from the side that defeated Collingwood in the Grand Final. He continued with Essendon until 1903, remembered as a consistent contributor who helped potentialise the club's defence during a golden era, despite missing out on the ultimate silverware.
