Teams

Recruited from the club's local Albert Park zone, Gray "Mick" Sibun was a home-grown talent who progressed through the South Melbourne Under-19s to become a reliable fixture in the senior side. Standing 173cm, he played primarily as a rover and half-forward flanker, possessing the agility and goal sense to consistently trouble opposition defences. He made an immediate impact by kicking two goals on debut in 1950 and maintained a high standard throughout his seven seasons at the Lake Oval, eventually earning selection for Victoria in interstate football and serving as the Swans' vice-captain during a challenging era for the club.

Sibun opted to leave the VFL in his prime following the 1956 season, accepting a captain-coach role with Rupanyup in the Wimmera Football League. The move cemented his status as a country football legend; he transformed the club into a powerhouse, leading them to premiership flags in 1961 and 1963. Regarded by many local observers as one of the finest players to ever feature in the Wimmera competition, Sibun ultimately played more games for Rupanyup than he did for South Melbourne, leaving a legacy as both a classy VFL small man and a bush footy icon.
