Bio
Recruited from Mornington, Mike Demaine arrived at Hawthorn as a promising teenager and made his senior debut aged just 17 during the 1965 season. He operated primarily as a wingman and half-forward flanker, showing enough potential to play ten games in his first year at Glenferrie Oval. However, his VFL career was abruptly ended in the opening round of 1966 against Collingwood, where he suffered a ruptured kidney that required surgical removal. The severe injury forced him out of league football at just 18 years of age, though he eventually recovered to play at the local level with Mt Eliza.
