Bio
A gifted all-round sportsman recruited from Old Scotch in the VAFA, Fitchett operated as a centreman during a brief but notable stint at Glenferrie Oval. While he demonstrated genuine skill and poise in the midfield, his VFL tenure was limited by his commitments to cricket, where he distinguished himself as a Sheffield Shield century-maker and future state captain for Victoria. He departed the league after just three seasons to join Sorrento, immediately helping the Mornington Peninsula club to a premiership in 1953. His legacy remains that of a versatile athlete who successfully competed at the elite level in both of Australia's traditional summer and winter sports.
