Bio
Recruited from Bentleigh in the Federal League, Mike Collins arrived at Melbourne as a teenager and was immediately thrust into senior football, making his debut in the opening round of the 1971 season against St Kilda. A rotation player capable of operating on the wing or running through the half-forward flank, he demonstrated an ability to find the goals early in his tenure but struggled to command a permanent spot in the starting lineup during a largely mediocre era for the Demons. While he made intermittent appearances under coaches Ian Ridley and Bob Skilton, he remained on the fringe of selection throughout his four years at the MCG. Collins eventually departed the VFL scene at the conclusion of the 1974 season with 27 senior games to his name.
