Family

Hailing from the prolific Riverina football factory of Ariah Park, Mike Quade was the middle sibling in a notable VFL triad that included his older brother Tom and future South Melbourne legend Ricky. A towering figure for his era at 193cm, he was recruited to North Melbourne as a ruckman who could impose himself at stoppages and prove dangerous when resting forward, evidenced by a handy return of nine goals from his limited opportunities. However, his career at Arden Street was defined more by frustration than on-field exploits, as persistent leg injuries severely hampered his continuity and selection. Unable to shake the chronic fitness issues, he was forced into a premature retirement after just three seasons, leaving the VFL scene just before his younger brother began his own storied career.
