Bio
Recruited from Caulfield City, Milne McCooke was a powerful follower and forward who used his heavy frame to crash packs and create space. He enjoyed a bright start to his time at St Kilda in 1955, most notably kicking three goals in just his second match to propel the Saints to a victory over North Melbourne that ended a demoralising 12-game losing streak. However, McCooke found it difficult to hold a permanent place in the senior side, spending the entirety of the 1956 season in the reserves and managing just six more senior games over his final two years. He eventually departed for the VFA where he found significant success as a premiership player and best and fairest winner with Oakleigh, later becoming a respected country football coach known for his physical approach and mentorship of young players.
