Selected by Geelong with a first-round pick in the 2008 National Draft, Mitch Brown endured a frustrating start to his career as persistent shoulder and knee injuries restricted him to just 15 games in six seasons at Kardinia Park. After being delisted by the Cats, he revitalised his prospects at VFL level with Sandringham, earning a lifeline from Essendon as a mature-age recruit tasked with stabilising a list impacted by player suspensions. Though originally a key defender, Brown reinvented himself at Tullamarine as a hard-running key forward, utilising his aerobic capacity to present as a lead-up target and link play between the arcs. Following a surprising delisting by the Bombers, he joined Melbourne as a supplemental selection recruit, where he provided valuable depth and veteran experience inside 50 before concluding his journey as a resilient journeyman who adapted to survive at the elite level.
