Bio
Drafted by the Brisbane Lions with pick 9 in the 2005 National Draft, Mitch Clark established himself as a highly athletic tall capable of dominating both in the air and at ground level. While initially developed as a key forward, he played arguably his finest football for the Lions as a mobile ruckman in 2009, stepping up in the absence of injured teammates to earn selection in the All-Australian squad. At the end of 2011, Clark requested a trade home to Western Australia, but in a high-profile move, he ultimately accepted a lucrative offer to join Melbourne as their marquee target.
Clark's start at Melbourne was explosive, quickly becoming the focal point of the Demons' attack before a severe Lisfranc foot injury in 2012 halted his momentum. His time at the club ended abruptly in early 2014 when he retired to manage clinical depression, a decision that was significant in the broader conversation regarding mental health in the AFL. Clark eventually returned to the elite level with Geelong in 2015, showing glimpses of his best form alongside Tom Hawkins, but recurring injuries limited his continuity and he retired permanently at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
