Bio
A diminutive forward standing just 164cm, Morris "Mo" Shapir was a promising teenager recruited from the Melbourne High School Old Boys in the Victorian Amateur Football Association. He made a brief cameo for North Melbourne during the 1935 season, booting two goals in his three senior appearances as a clever rover-forward option while still only 17 years old. His football journey was effectively stalled by a severe leg injury during the 1936 pre-season, preventing him from adding to his tally, but his career is most notably defined by its tragic conclusion. Enlisting in the RAAF during World War II, Shapir served as a Flight Sergeant and was killed in action over British-occupied Egypt in 1942, remaining one of the few VFL players to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
